Academic staff in the School of Computing are qualified to teach in higher education with most of them holding at least a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Practice. The majority of academic staff in the School (83%) are accredited fellows of the Higher Education Academy . Within the School of Computing courses are taught by staff who are Professors (20%), Readers/Senior Lecturers (32%) and Lecturers (48%). Digital systems and computer support

Students will appraise an array of methods used to provide virtual storage and network virtualisation. The security and ethical challenges inherent in an organisational transformation to cloud computing will be evaluated. This module explores protection mechanisms appropriate to various information technology systems and architectures. Mechanisms and cryptographic protocols that help to provide confidentiality and integrity of data together with authentication and authorisation are explored in detail. The principles and fundamentals of system-level security are considered together with a contextual overview of the law and regulations relating to the use of security mechanisms.

Students will develop a detailed technical knowledge of advanced communications networking mechanisms and services. A 12 month period of professional training spent as the third year of a sandwich programme undertaking an approved placement with a suitable company. This provides an opportunity for the student to gain relevant industrial experience building on the first two years of study and to prepare for employment after graduation.
