Laptops and Notebooks: Here are 6 Differences

Laptops are devices that are packaged in portable forms such as laptops that can be easily carried anywhere. After the appearance of these portable objects, a term or naming emerged, namely laptops and notebooks. The word laptop is used to refer to a computer that is placed on a table, rather than one that sits on a desk.

Many equate these two devices, but they are clearly different. Worse yet, not everyone turns out to knows about the differences between the two devices. So what is the difference between the two devices? Let’s look at the article below.

Screen size difference

In terms of screen size, we can distinguish which one is actually a laptop or notebook. Where laptops have screen sizes of more than 18 inches while notebooks generally have screen sizes with smaller dimensions between 13 to 18 inches.

Weight

Apart from the screen size, the thing that distinguishes the two is the weight of the two devices. Whereas laptops weigh about 3 to 5 kg, while notebooks weigh about 1 to 2 kg.

Graphic specifications

In general, laptops have VGA with a more capable capacity to support their display performance, while notebooks generally have a smaller VGA capacity. But over time, many notebooks for output now have VGA support with a capacity that is quite large and capable.

Differences in RAM size

If the Graphic specifications are in terms of VGA, RAM capacity can also be the difference between the two devices. Where laptops generally have a larger RAM capacity when compared to notebooks.

However, along with the development of the times and current notebook technology, many also have a large RAM capacity. Until the upgrade supports a larger RAM capacity.

The existence of DVD ROM

It is one of the most prominent differences if in general laptops have a DVD ROM device for cassette reading activities, while notebooks do not have a DVD ROM. However, to overcome this limitation we can purchase an external DVD ROM for use in reading cassettes on notebooks that do not have an internal DVD ROM.

Battery life

If in general, the use of batteries in notebooks has a long duration of time, then not with laptops which generally do not have fairly long battery life. However, the use of available power on both portable devices may affect this.

From the various differences between laptops and notebooks, hopefully, it can add insight and our references in the field of technology, especially in the development of technology that is on computers for now.
